Breadcrumb: Just Enough to Say Thank You
My 7-year-old fractured his arm last week.
After we left Urgent Care Friday morning, him in a splint, me on the phone, I called to book a follow-up with the orthopedist to get him a proper cast.
Soonest they had was Monday 9am, but the woman said it was gonna be at an office 22 minutes from our house.
I took it because there wasn’t much choice, but I was already nervous about being 15 minutes late. School drop-off starts at 8:45, plus a few extra minutes for parking and getting inside.
And of course, they officially want you there 15 minutes early for paperwork.
Anyways. This morning, I was getting everyone ready to rush out the door and preparing for apologies at the office, and I get a phone call from the scheduling desk.
“We just noticed we had you written down for the wrong office. The doctor you’re seeing starts her shift at the office 5 minutes away from the kids’ school.”
Whew. Total sigh of relief. I ended up getting there five minutes early.
My 2 year old then walks into the kitchen, oblivious to everything (or is he? Maybe he felt the energy in the room), and says,
“Daddy, put on Thank You Hashem song."
(So I did, we had a quick little dance party..)
And it hit me.
We say we thank Hashem for the good and for the bad.
Sometimes the whole situation is still hard, still frustrating, still not what you wanted.
But there’s always something good buried in it.
Just enough to notice. Just enough to breathe.
Just enough to say Thank You.
Thank You Hashem.
